Our World is a project where PiousSlut will document your experiences about the cities where you live. This project is brainchild of many bright minds. We are starting it with Chicago from where Kendra Thornton is sharing her experience about Chicago and the charms associated with it.
Small Town Charm, Big City Fun
While I’ve been lucky enough to do my fair share of traveling, I’ve also had the opportunity to live in one of the best tourist destinations America has to offer. Full of world-class museums, incredible food, and enough shopping and entertainment options to last a lifetime, Chicago radiates a mix of small town charm and big city life like no other place I’ve been. Whether you’re planning a weekend visit or an extended vacation, the following are just a few of the city’s must-see destinations:
Chicago’s Front Yard
One of the most famous parks in America, Grant Park is unquestionably one of the best attractions in the city. Home to the city’s famous Millennium Park, the Museum Campus, and acres of beautifully sculpted lakeside scenery, the park is a great place to relax or play. In fact, the park features many of the city’s major cultural events, including championship celebrations for local sports teams like the Bulls and Blackhawks. In July of each year, the park is also home to one of the world’s largest food festivals – the Taste of Chicago. Meanwhile, for a chance to enjoy year-round awesomeness, visitors should check out the gorgeous Buckingham Fountain or the massive collection at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Feed the Family
If you like to eat, Chicago is the place to be. Steak, hot dogs, and pizza are just three of the city’s culinary claims to fame. Of course, if you’re looking for a Chicago experience for the whole family, there are plenty of options there too. Located in the Loop, South Water Kitchen is open at 6 a.m. and serves great, affordable food all day long. Better still, the place has a huge menu for even the pickiest eaters in your party.
Location, Location, Location
Unlike some big cities, Chicago’s size and distinctive neighborhoods make it especially important to choose the right hotel. Knowing whether you’re more interested in checking out the imposing skyline of downtown or the welcoming shops and bars on the North Side is the obvious first step. Luckily, the city is full of a combination of luxury and budget-friendly option. No matter what your particular needs, gogobot.com can be a great resource in your search.
Shopping Till You Drop
As a truly global city, Chicago offers plenty of shopping options for even certified shopaholics. In addition to the major department stores lining the Magnificent Mile on North Michigan Avenue, numerous chic alternatives can be found throughout the city. Located near historic Wrigley Field on the North Side, Southport Avenue has a number of great boutiques for you to explore your inner fashionista. While there are dozens of great places to look, the casual cool of Krista and Tula are certain to impress. Meanwhile, for some of Chicago’s own designers, consider Cerato Boutique.
Whether you’re looking for a place to get away or a trip to remember, the only problem you’re likely to have with this city is leaving it. After all, there’s a reason we call it Sweet Home Chicago.
